Most nights after dinner you will likely find me in my studio at my dotting station creating mandalas. My creative journey began as a way to slow my worry during a very trying time in our world in early 2020. My artistic husband and daughter suggested I take up painting but that wasn’t where my heart felt drawn to. I am extremely detail-oriented and the looseness and lack of structure in typical paintings gave me anxiety, lol. I perused the internet and found these beautiful pieces of art made from intricate dot work and patterns, and I LOVED the organization and symmetry (my daytime joy is working with spreadsheets so this might help explain my excitement). I watched many videos on social media to learn the process and eventually grew to create my own. My mandalas are created with acrylic paints on cradled wood panels using dotting tools. The finest dots are applied with a toothpick or sewing needles.
My exploration in finding peace and calm has encouraged me to meditate while creating my mandalas.
I enjoy listening to New Age music and audiobooks while focusing on my breathing and working to calm my ever-racing mind. Dotting has helped me to slow my breathing and to be patient with myself.
My husband, Dave, and I have been happily married for 30 years and we enjoy spending time in nature together. He enjoys en plein air painting when the weather allows, so I’ve made it possible to take my art en plein air as well. It is truly a gift to be able to mediate and create while in the shade of the trees. Our adult daughter, Delia, still loves to join us as well, whether she’s passionately searching for salamanders, hiking, or painting fireside. We all bring our passions for nature and creating while we camp throughout NH, VT, and ME.
When I’m not creating mandalas, I like to make quilts for my family and friends to celebrate special occasions in their lives. Weekdays, I work as an Executive Coordinator at a commercial property management company. My ultimate passions are spending time with my family and getting all my dots in a row.
